Describe a time you had to push back on an unrealistic testing timeline.

  • timeline negotiation
  • advocacy
  • data-driven

Answer it first, then compare. Nothing here is saved or scored.

Model answer

Describe using data to support your position: test case count, historical velocity, environment setup time. Explain what you proposed as alternatives, reduced scope, parallel testing, risk-based approach. Show that you offered solutions, not just objections. Mention the outcome and how you maintained a collaborative relationship with the project manager.

What interviewers listen for

  • Ownership
You name what you personally did, not what "the team" did.
  • Calibration
You can articulate when you escalated, and when you absorbed the issue without escalating.
  • Influence without authority
You moved a developer or a PM by sharing data, not by pulling rank.
