Describe a situation where you disagreed with a developer about whether something was a bug. How did you resolve it?

  • conflict resolution
  • collaboration
  • requirements

Answer it first, then compare. Nothing here is saved or scored.

Model answer

Great answers show diplomacy and data-driven resolution. Reference the requirements/acceptance criteria as the shared source of truth. Explain how you presented evidence (screenshots, logs, spec references) rather than opinions. Mention involving the PM if needed, and how you maintained a collaborative relationship with the developer afterward.

What interviewers listen for

  • Ownership
You name what you personally did, not what "the team" did.
  • Calibration
You can articulate when you escalated, and when you absorbed the issue without escalating.
  • Influence without authority
You moved a developer or a PM by sharing data, not by pulling rank.
