How do you handle dynamic content and waiting strategies in your automation framework?

  • waits
  • dynamic content
  • stability

Answer it first, then compare. Nothing here is saved or scored.

Model answer

Never use fixed sleeps. Use explicit waits tied to conditions: waitForSelector, waitForResponse, waitForLoadState. Playwright auto-waits on actions which handles most cases. For dynamic content: wait for network idle, wait for specific API responses, use polling assertions (expect with timeout). For animations: wait for animation to complete or disable animations in test mode. The key principle: wait for the condition you need, not an arbitrary time.

What interviewers listen for

  • Test architecture instincts
You can defend why your suite is shaped like a pyramid, a trophy, or a honeycomb.
  • Locator discipline
You rank selector strategies by stability and explain when to break the rule.
  • Flaky test ownership
You debug to a structural fix instead of retry-until-green.
  • Parallelisation literacy
You know how your framework isolates state, fixtures, and database access across workers.
